His practical, no-nonsense approach was honed by his experience as a senior journalist covering provincial and national politics at the Ontario Legislature and on Parliament Hill, as well as his years as a broadcast news director in Toronto. After leaving the news media, he became communications advisor to an Ontario cabinet minister before moving on to a career in public affairs, media relations and communications, including two years as Director of Communications for Ontario Liberal Leader Dalton McGuinty.
